    • Living Green Wall with seasonal flowering plants to provide a source for nectar for bees

The new VIRTUS data centre site in Uxbridge is highly secure and amongst the most technologically advanced facilities in the UK. The new site provides an additional 17,000NTM (net technical metres) of IT space and joins VIRTUS’s existing sites in Slough, Hayes and Enfield.

For the living walls at the Uxbridge data centre site, the landscape architects, Ireland Albrecht worked with Biotecture create a planting plan that would suit the South facing elevation and contain a mix of evergreen plants and seasonal flowering plants. They also wanted to ensure there was a good range of species like bergenias and euphorbias, to provide a nectar source for bees for as much of the year as possible. Because of the proximity to the Heathrow airport flight paths it was important not to attract additional birds to the area so no plants that produced berries were selected.

Biotecture have worked in the past with other technology companies to install living walls on their premises. To see another example visit the Citibank Riverdale Data Centre portfolio page.
