EQ Atrium living wall

Biotecture designed and delivered this 110 sqm green wall which runs vertically through the central atrium of the new EQ commercial office development in Bristol. The internal living wall includes 17 different species and the planting plan selection reflects the River Avon running through Bristol.

The House of Elements; Internal Living Wall

Biotecture designed and installed this stunning internal living wall for a private client in Peckham as part of a full house re-model. Biotecture worked closely with the Architect Neil Dusheiko to create a lush living wall that contributed to the client’s aspiration for a ‘spa-like retreat’. Biotecture took the project from concept right through to completion on site and beyond. The project recently featured in Channel 4's Extraordinary Extensions (Series 2, Episode 2)

Legal & General Wales HQ Reception Living Wall

Biotecture recently completed this internal living wall at Legal and General's new flagship HQ in The Interchange, Cardiff. The green wall was installed using Biotecture’s naturally resilient hydroponic system and the planting design includes the icon Legal and General umbrella.

Living cladding at McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny Designer Outlet

Building on the success of our previous work at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Ashford, we were appointed to design and install living walls at the heart of McArthurGlen’s new Outlet near Paris. Biotecture worked collaboratively with the design team and contractor from an early stage to deliver the client’s vison. The planting design was a collaboration with living wall pioneer and renowned botanist Patrick Blanc.

The Rowe, roof terrace living wall

The Rowe, a newly developed office scheme in bustling Whitechapel was designed with sustainability and wellbeing in mind. It boasts 17,000 sq.ft of outdoor space with terraces on every floor. Biotecture worked with the development’s design team and main contractor, to design and install this 286 metre living wall. The project creates a green back drop to the main roof terrace and spans the East, North and West elevations.

Triton Square Living Wall, Regent’s Place, London

The Biodiversity Net Gains and visual appeal of the living wall at Trinity Square, along with building performance and air quality improvements, set an exemplar for future urban greening projects. The benefits were delivered to the client through a 350m² Biotecture Biopanel living wall system that incorporates around 22,000 plants.

Canary Wharf Urban Greening – Phase Two

Biotecture recently completed the second phase of an award-winning urban greening programme at Canary Wharf. With the opening of the new Elizabeth line station, the north-east corner of the Estate has become an important new gateway to the district. The client wanted to create a great first impression for visitors and provide new spaces for people to relax and reconnect with nature. Using our Plantbox system we were able to design and install living walls in a range of locations including along railings and the transformation of a whole façade.

Canary Wharf Urban Greening – Phase One

Biotecture delivered PlantBox living walls in six prominent locations across the Canary Wharf estate to enrich the public realm and contribute the client’s ambitious sustainability goals. Using our freestanding, stackable and modular system we were able to deliver a big impact within a short timeframe. The Project was awarded a BALI National Landscaping Award in 2022.

BioPanel living walls, McArthurGlen Ashford Designer Outlet

Biotecture’s statement living walls are integral to the architectural look and feel at the McArthurGlen Ashford Designer Outlet. They were designed to enrich the retail experience and strengthen the outlet’s position as a flagship shopping destination. Working collaboratively with the design team and the main contractor, Biotecture designed and installed over 2,000m²of living wall to create a rich vertical garden. The green walls help establish a sense of place, and reflect Kent’s status as ‘The Garden of England’. The project is one of Europe’s largest living walls and demonstrates how living walls can be delivered at scale to enhance the urban environment.

One & Five Bank Street, Canary Wharf

Biotecture was approached by Canary Wharf Contractors to design and install a living wall on the ground floor of One & Five Bank Street, a new 27 storey building marking the entrance to the Canary Wharf Estate. Biotecture worked closely with the design team at an early stage to ensure the 170m² living wall was integrated into the building fabric. The living wall flanks a new public promenade along the South Dock, creating a peaceful outdoor place for people to reconnect with nature.

Cannon Park Car Park, Coventry

Biotecture worked with architects, Urban Innovations, to design and deliver 690m² of living wall on a multi-story car park in Coventry. The introduction of this expansive living wall helped to satisfy planning concerns and creates a striking feature on what might have otherwise been a blank wall. The living walls at Cannon Park features a bold planting design creating a three-dimensional ‘wave’ or ‘drift’ aesthetic that will become more prominent as the plants mature. The design highlights Biotecture’s ability to match plant choice and design to client requirements.

Fosse Park Shopping Centre, Leicester

Fosse Park in south east Leicester showcases Biotecture's expertise in enhancing the shopping experience through biophilic design at a time when retailers are looking for different ways to attract people back to their shops. Owned by The Crown Estate, Fosse Park is one of Britain’s largest out of town retail centres, and has recently undergone a £168m extension by Bowmer & Kirkland, increasing retail space by 40%. Biotecture's living walls were installed as a key architectural feature of the new retail space.

Middle Walk Living Wall, Woking

As part of ThamesWey's regeneration project in Woking, a tired 1960s block of maisonettes overlooking the high street was transformed with a green building envelope solution, incorporating a bio-diverse green roof and Biotecture’s PlantBox living wall system. Working with structural engineers, Biotecture designed an innovative, value-engineered solution that enabled the living wall to be retrofitted to the existing brick balconies. The final effect sees elegant ribbons of green wall stretching across the width of the building, softening the brickwork and elevating the aesthetics above Wolsey Place shopping centre.

Castle Mill Student Accommodation Living Wall, Oxford

The living wall installation at the University of Oxford's Castle Mill student accommodation block illustrates how Biotecture’s fire rated living wall system is a workable reclad solution for the thousands of buildings in this country that are currently fitted with unsafe ACM cladding. Five fire rated living walls were specified at Castle Mill to replace the existing cladding, which created a stunning aesthetic and assisted the planning process.

Business Park Living Wall, Exeter

TJX Europe HQ, Watford

TJX Europe’s landmark new headquarters in the centre of Watford demonstrates how Biotecture’s living walls can transform urban landscapes and create an architectural feature to stunning effect. Standing at 12 storeys high, it is one of the tallest buildings in Watford and features over 620 square metres of living wall, positioned internally and externally both at ground level and with multiple elevations, including a seventh-floor roof terrace. The living wall was installed nearly a year ahead of the the project handover and will contribute to the target BREEAM 'Excellent' rating.

Farringdon Cycle Superhighway Living Hoarding

Biotecture worked with Main Contractor Mace, to create a living hoarding for the construction site of a new 200,000 square foot office development in Farringdon. The project, stretching 43 metres along the Farringdon Cycle Superhighway is made up of over 95 square metres of PlantBox hoarding and almost 3,000 plants. The hoarding, located on a busy main road has been designed to help mitigate the effects of airborne pollutants from both the site and local traffic. The project has helped enhance the local area and communicate the green credentials of both Mace and joint developers Helical and Ashby Capital.

Bristol Temple Meads Living Hoarding

Biotecture has supplied BAM UK with three living hoarding systems for CEG’s EQ development in Bristol City Centre. The project at 111 Victoria Street, close to Bristol Temple Meads Station, is one of the largest speculative office developments underway in the south of England. Once complete, the building will offer 200,000 sq ft of high-quality offices and accommodate over 2,000 people. Architect Aukett Swanke designed the building with sustainability, amenity, health and wellbeing at its core. The development is targeting BREEAM Outstanding. It incorporates photovoltaic units on the roof, rainwater harvesting, efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems, extensive cycling parking, electric vehicle and e-bike charging points. Selecting Biotecture’s living hoarding system extends this commitment to sustainability and biodiversity to the very start of the project.

Globe Point Living Hoarding, Leeds

Biotecture’s PlantBox living hoarding system has been selected for the first phase of a £350million regeneration project by CEG at Globe Point in Leeds, a 38,000 sq ft speculative development incorporating Grade A office space, retail and leisure. The PlantBox living hoarding system was chosen to add greenery to the perimeter of the construction site, and in the process generate early interest in this speculative development. A total of 484 PlantBox units and 1,936 plants were installed as part of the living hoarding system, covering an area of 63.36m². Globe Point is located in the Temple District which connects the city centre to the southern districts of Leeds. Globe Point was designed by award-winning architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and the main contractor is BAM Construction.

Highway Living Wall, Southampton

Biotecture worked with Balfour Beatty Living Places and Southampton City Council to create a magnificent and welcoming feature on the Millbrook roundabout, a key gateway to the city. The UK’s first highway living walls are also helping to mitigate air quality in Southampton. The ten freestanding living wall structures are situated below the Millbrook Flyover, one of the city’s busiest road areas.

In 2013, The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) announced plans for a multi-million pound refurbishment of the No.1 Court, famous as the second largest Show Court used for The Championships, Wimbledon. Included in the plans were a new, fixed and retractable roof, increased spectator capacity, refurbishment of the hospitality suites, the creation of a two-level public plaza and the installation of two living walls, one each side of the Big Screen facing Aorangi Terrace, commonly known as ‘the Hill’. To achieve this landscape vision Biotecture was appointed to work with the AELTC on the design, planting, installation and maintenance of the living walls.

Biotecture’s impressive 93m2 atrium green wall for the British Gas owner, Centrica’s, new Oxford headquarters was an integrated element of the ambitious sustainability aims for the building; the green wall, which reaches three storeys up, contributed to the building’s BREEAM rating of 'Excellent', acting as acoustic buffer and a natural filter to improve air quality.
