We have Installed over 50 living walls!

Our mission is to transform urban landscapes and reconnect people with nature. We are proud to have designed and installed some great living walls this year from temporary PlantBox green hoardings to a stunning backdrop for the UK’s highest roof garden.

The Mitie Landscapes division are on track to become the greenest commercial landscaping provider in the UK, and Mitie as a whole and are committed to reaching net zero carbon operational emissions by 2025.

Our mission has always been to reconnect people with nature and becoming part of the Mitie group will help us delivery our innovative green wall systems across the UK. We have ambitious growth plans for the next few years, and we are excited about the future!

We celebrated 15 years of reconnecting people with nature

15 years ago, our founders Richard Sabin and Mark Laurence started Biotecture with the aim of transforming urban environments and reconnecting people with nature. They developed our revolutionary hydroponic living wall system, which helped to change the perception of living walls from a novelty landscaping feature into a widely recognised cladding material.

This summer we brought everyone together for a party to celebrate what we have built over the last 15 years!

We were visited by our local MP

In October, our local MP Gillian Keegan visited our West Sussex office and nursery. It was a pleasure to show her what we do and how we are helping to green up urban environments. Gillian said: “It was fantastic to meet Richard and the team from Biotecture and celebrate their 15th anniversary.

“They create incredible living walls which are remarkable to look at and have a host of benefits including, improving air quality, and mental well-being – transforming indoor and outdoor spaces with beautiful plants.

We won a prestigious BALI Award

One of our top highlights of the year was being awarded a BALI National Landscape Award in recognition of our work installing living walls across the Canary Wharf estate.

In 2021 Canary Wharf management started an ambitious urban greening project designed to reconnect people with nature and help transition the area from a Monday to Friday work zone into a seven day a week live, work, play destination. Landscape Architect Gillespies drew up an ambitious masterplan including pocket parks and additional green spaces across the Estate. Biotecture were appointed to design and deliver a series of living walls to help bring the vision to life. These were installed in phases throughout 2021 and 2022.

The BALI judging panel recognised how the Biotecture living walls are helping to improve air quality, attenuate rainwater and increase biodiversity for residents, commuters, workers and visitors to the area. They also commended us for ‘a green initiative worthy of support. A committed contractor coupled with a client willing to experiment.’

We are looking forward to 2023 and wishing you all a Happy New Year!
