The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is a charity working to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment, by transforming the way it is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated. It represents the voice of the industry’s current and future leaders who are striving for transformational change.
According to the UKGBC, the Future Leaders programme is an education and leadership development course spanning five months, which focuses on critical issues facing the construction industry and collaborative working to come up with innovative solutions to address these issues. The programme takes participants on a journey to develop the capability and skills to drive change and sustainability, while progressing and boosting confidence in their own individual leadership journeys.
Designed for forward thinking professionals, candidates are selected for participation based on their enthusiasm to learn, openness to new ways of thinking and desire to challenge the status quo.
This programme is a fantastic resource for opening avenues of discussion and encouraging a multi-discipline approach to problem solving. Innovative action to improve sustainability and address environmental issues is vital to the future of the planet and the human race so it is important for courses like this one to give the next generation of business leaders the appropriate skills to take sustainable building to the next level.
Matt has been with Biotecture for more than two years as a project manager. He previously worked in the arts industry, delivering Public Art projects in London and surrounding areas. Matt has been the lead on several projects for Biotecture, including Air Quality procurement research, implementing a new Stock Management system, and recently, launching the company’s new living wall system, PlantBox.
Matt is committed to becoming part of a movement dedicated to sustainability in the built environment, using nature to inspire, engage and educate future generations.
Matt says: “I am honoured and very excited to have been selected to take part in the prestigious UKGBC Future Leaders programme. By working closely with the other participants, I believe that we will be able to develop the leadership skills we need to make a lasting change for our own organisations as well as the industry we work in. I am keen to gain an understanding of the environmental issues faced by different businesses and share my green infrastructure knowledge with the rest of the team.
The opportunity to join the list of UKGBC Future Leaders alumni will further connect me to likeminded sustainability professionals already driving change and establishing their careers in this industry.”
