    • Three sections of living wall
    • Boosts local biodiversity
    • Wraps around corners
    • Contributes to M&S's Plan A
    • Masks car park for local residents

This series of three living walls was installed by Biotecture for Marks and Spencer, on their newly built store in Sevenoaks. The project was installed as part of Marks and Spencer’s long-term plan to make their stores greener and more sustainable. The living walls wrap around a section of the car park, adjacent to residential buildings on the same road. The three sections are linked together by waves of planting. The species, all indigenous to the UK, were chosen for their ecological value, to boost biodiversity in the area.

In summer, the flowers of Geranium dalmaticum and Phlox douglasii bloom in pink and mauve, whilst Hebe pinguifolia and Sarcococca humilis flower in white. The living wall maintains it lush green cover all year round as the plants are all evergreen, except for the sole addition of one deciduous plant – white Snowdrops peek out from the green foliage from late winter to spring. The inclusion of Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ gives further seasonal variation with its deep purple leaves.

Biotecture have worked on a variety of other retail green wall projects. If you are interested to see more you can see more in our portfolio.
