In 2019 we delivered over 2,000 square metres of living wall at the McArthurGlen Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent and we were delighted to be appointed to design and install another 1,000 square metres on their latest designer outlet near Paris.
Designed by Arte Charpentier Architects, the new McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny Designer Outlet has been designed to be both contemporary and sustainable and will include green roofs, vertical gardens and 120 electric vehicle charging points. The outlet is being built to high environmental standards and Biotecture’s green walls will integrate nature into the heart of the project.
Our design and project management team have been working closely with the client and their design team to ensure the living walls are properly integrated into the design. This has included careful layout of the living wall panels to compliment the gently curved facades and curved window openings.
A crucial part of the design process for a living wall is the selection of the planting selection and planting design. French botanist and visionary green wall pioneer Patrick Blanc has chosen the plant palette for the project. He has picked 40 different species including flowering plants such as Erysium, Lavandula, and Jasminum which will create an impressive seasonal display across the living wall.
Our hydroponic living walls are ‘pre-grown’ into our own patented BioPanel modular panels at our dedicated nursery facility in West Sussex, where we have over 3,000 sqm of purpose-built vertical racks. Our nursery team are busy planting up over 1000 square metres of BioPanel for the project! The panels are being planted up in phases and our full-time team of horticulturists will nurture the plants until they are ready to be installed later this year.
